Storage
So, you've got a French Press, a digital timer, a measuring spoon and
an airtight container of high grade, coarse ground coffee beans. Where
do you keep them in between brewings?
The Lunchroom or Office Kitchen
If
you work in a relatively small office and you trust your coworkers, you
may decide to keep your Cubicle Coffee-making supplies and equipment
in the office kitchen or lunchroom. If your office kitchen has any
kind of cabinets or storage, this may be acceptable. Then again, if you've
ever
had your
lunch "mysteriously" disappear from the office refrigerator,
it may be better to keep your supplies close at hand. If you work in
a larger office
or manufacturing facility, then don't even think about keeping your stuff
in the common lunchroom. It will be on eBay faster than you can suck
the filing out of a Krispy Kreme donut.
Cubicle Overhead Storage
Our
personal preference for the best place to keep our supplies is in the
locking flipper door unit, a.k.a. cubicle overhead storage bin.
Just
toss out
a couple
of those old binders you never use and make some space on one side of
the storage unit.
The obvious advantage is that you can close the door
at night and ideally lock it. If you can't lock it, at least your supplies
will be out of sight. If your coworkers and the cleaning staff can't
see your supplies, they're less
likely to
help
themselves.
Just
make sure to take everything out every few weeks or months and wipe
the area down with some Windex and paper towels.
And be cautious if you
also
keep a supply
of sugar packets (or hot cocoa, crackers, nuts, etc.) with your supplies.
Apparently mice can very easily get into cubicle storage
and file cabinets. But the good news is that the mice don't seem
to like ground coffee at all.
The Vertical Filing Cabinet
If
you are blessed with a low wall cubicle and have no overhead storage
to call your own, then odds are good that you at least have a file drawer
or two. Get a small, used cardboard box, cut it down to size with your
trusty office xacto knife and place it in one of your drawers. Just
be careful when you open and close the drawer -- you don't want to slam
it and risk shattering the press pot carafe.
Four drawer vertical filing cabinets have the added advantage of providing
a nice workspace on top for brewing your Cubicle Coffee.
