| Description | Ok, on our meager paychecks we can hardly afford to splurge on 100% Kona Coffee every day. But thanks to a co-worker who took her annual vacation in the Islands, we received a welcome gift of some whole bean Private Reserve Peaberry from Mountain Thunder. The bad news: we went through the 6 ounce bag in no time flat. This is Hawaiian Kona at its finest. Very mellow, low acidity without being dull, but nicely complex with wonderful flavors. It's roasted pretty dark, but that seems to bring out a mellow, smokey, nutty flavor. We could almost hear the rustle of grass skirts in the distance. Mountain Thunder does ship anywhere so if you have a hankering for 100% Kona, you might want to give them a try. But it is pretty expensive. TIP: if you have friends, relatives or co-workers going on vacation to Hawaii, Jamaica or any of the other coffee growing regions of the world, make sure they know how much you appreciate good coffee. And make sure they know to steer clear of that tourist coffee in the airports -- "Kona" only needs about 5-10% of genuine Kona beans to carry the marketing label, so tell them to look for the 100% guarantee. |
